The head of the firm's litigation department, George Tzimopoulos handles both litigation and transactional matters and renders general corporate advice, with an emphasis on real estate law.

Mr. Tzimopoulos represents well-known national and New York City real estate developers, in major residential and commercial projects. Through the course of his career, he has handled commercial litigation for a variety of small and large companies, including real estate developers, financial companies, leasing institutions, automobile companies and several insurance carriers. He also regularly defends depositions in New York asbestos tort claims and counsels a variety of businesses on their day-to-day legal issues.

Mr. Tzimopoulos has also served as general counsel for cooperatives, condominiums and homeowner associations throughout New York City. In that role, he has handled a variety of cases pitting individual unit owners or shareholders against their homeowner associations, cooperatives or condominiums. These cases included election disputes, sponsor defects litigation and foreclosures, including the ejectment of shareholders for defaults pursuant to their proprietary leases.

Early in his career, Mr. Tzimopoulos handled many lawsuits involving distressed New York City real estate, defending mortgage foreclosures for cooperative housing corporations and asserting lender liability claims on behalf of shareholders. He also foreclosed on bulk shares of sponsor-owned apartments that were resold to owner-occupants or investors. For these cases, he used then-novel applications of the Uniform Commercial Code self-help remedies; these arguments later became the standard in the field of cooperative law.

Mr. Tzimopoulos has successfully defended appeals and conducted arbitrations. He appears regularly in state courts in the counties of New York, Queens, Kings, Nassau and Suffolk, to argue motions on behalf of clients and conduct hearings. Mr. Tzimopoulos has also appeared in landlord-tenant court (Housing Court) and the federal courts.

Mr. Tzimopoulos' expertise in real estate has been recognized by the New York Times, where he has been quoted in several columns over the years. He also has published decisions in the Supreme Court of New York County and the Appellate Division, Second Department.
